Yamaha FZ-09 vs Triumph Street Triple

The triumph goes for $9399... Almost $1500+ the fZ09 so not too far off.

Better parts on the triumph?

I've heard some negatives about reliability and cost of ownership.

Triumph has been proven to NOT be a high mileage engine in the real world. people will say that it is, but from when i had the Daytona 675 i used to almost never see people getting more than around 20-25k off of their bikes without major things happening.

also the Triumph will take longer to get parts for, is more expensive, is more specialized and less likely that dealerships have the tools for the bikes if they are not a dealership, and most importantly to me is that their dealer networking is few and far between.

same with Ducati, KTM, BMW, and Aprilia.

'Hi my name is Janx and I used to be addicted to the thought of a Street Triple, it's been 7weeks since I longed for that .... Triumph .... But I have been saved brothers!! .. I have found the true path in life!! ... For now I have seen the light! ... Of the FZ09!! ... And the wheels... The frame ... The exhaust.... Heard the sound!!! ... I am born again brothers!!... Hallelujah!!!' .... Lol .. ;)

hahahahahahaha!!!!!!!

2007 Triumph Tiger, lasted about 17,000 miles till it felt worn out.
I just didn't think it had the reliability.
still don't

Street triple is a sportbike missing its fairing and still has a mediocre suspension.

So compared to the FZ-09, the Street triple has:
- a smaller displacement engine which means it spins more revs to make the same HP
- makes less torque which equals a less tractable engine
- has a more severe riding position and for most folks that is less comfortable
- has mediocre suspension that will still take $1500-2k to improve

So how is the street triple better than or even comparable to the FZ-09 other than both has 3 cylinder engines? AND costs $1400+ more than the FZ-09.

FZ-09 > Triple

Good point on putting the money you saved on getting an FZ into it to make it an even better bike, this will get a lot of people thinking.

well good thing I started the discussion..

I wonder how Triumph owners would respond.

Personally I can't see myself buying the street triple after seeing the FZ09.

Just wanted to see if anyone would say otherwise..

Yama58 07-31-2013 11:33 PM

I would choose the fz-09 over the street triple.

korie 07-31-2013 11:48 PM

i suppose that the only "major" thing that will be brought into the equation is that the Triumph will have more "character" (faulty parts that make a person appreciate the vehicle more), and this is subjective to the individual.
