I was the poster on SVrider.com who called Yamaha and was told to write a letter.
Just last night, while riding my V-Strom 650, I came up on a right turn onto a different road before I was expecting it and locked up my rear brake trying to slow down enough for the turn. Fortunately, I maintained control of the bike and didn't highside, but I felt it was just another example of why I like ABS. Some folks feel ABS lengthens stopping distances and think they can stop more safely w/o it. My response is as follows - True, an expert rider CAN stop in a shorter distance w/o ABS, under ideal conditions. If I, or most ordinary riders, should rear-end someone because the ABS "took too long to stop," then I probably would have rear-ended them if I didn't have ABS.
Yamaha had to design for ABS for the EU, so why not at least offer it as an option here? I couldn't even locate an ABS-equipped V-Strom and had to drive across several States to get my ABS-equipped SV, so even on relatively low-priced bikes, ABS sells.
If it had ABS, I would already be at the dealer wanting to make a deposit.
