Looking to invest in some luggage

It's been a pretty mild winter up here so I'm already looking for some goodies for my FZ for this coming season, gonna ship out my ECU to vcyclenut in a couple weeks and I'd like to invest in some luggage. I mostly just want luggage to get away from having to wear a backpack everywhere I go, mostly work and a short stop at the grovery store afterwards. So I'm looking to carry a laptop and lunch in the morning and a laptop and six beers in the evening, and maybe an occasional weekends worth of clothes. Can you guys suggest a good bang for buck set of bags? Thanks!

Yamaha has soft side bags, with stays. You can also get a tank bag. or there is the rear deck that can accommodate a variety of bags.

I like a rear rack with a locking hard top case, but I know some guys think this gives the bike too much of a "scooter" look, great for lane sharing if you are in california, though

A rear rack (about $200 odd) + some value CooCase top case for under $100- you are good for a week long adventure if need be! Or more.

Motorock, If my memory serves me right, didn't you do a pretty extensive write up with pictures on this setup somewhere on the interwebs?

Yes, your memory serves you right. I nearly forgot about it!

Here it is: https://www.fz-09forums.com/forum/yam...l-topcase.html

Since then, I have added running and brake lights to the case and it comes off easy- And wire stays out of the way even when I take off the rack. Will update the thread with those new mods soon.

Kriega luggage is great, and you can combine different bits together depending on how much storage you need. I used a US20 on the back of the bike and a US10 on the tank for a 5 day trip to Laguna Seca last year.....very stable at speed. The R20 backpack is also designed very well, the straps are designed in a way so they don't 'interfere' or impede shoulder movement if your wearing a leather jacket with protection.

I will be installing Shad 36 liter hard bags and a Shad 39 liter top trunk with backrest pad next week sometime. I'll post pics when installed. The top trunk will only be used when my son is on board. I've never been a fan of top trunks. I just wanted the added security of my son not falling off the back of this beast.

I'm thinking the same thing for my daughter. Any pics available?
